He coordinates his apartment complex’s composting program, leads voluntary simplicity workshops, and is currently researching the voluntary simplicity movement in the U.S. Brett is currently teaching sociology at Luther College in Iowa.

A scholar of social responsibility, global citizenship, and ethical consumerism, he gives presentations across North America, Europe, and Asia empowering people to make a difference. Ellis is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, where he focuses his energies on bridging the gap between academics, activists, and the average citizen.
