Welcome to Terrier Books

Founded as a webstore in 2022 and expanded into a physical storefront in 2024, Terrier Books is the passion project of Gladys, who set out to create an affordable, eco-conscious way for people to access books. Located on the unceded traditional territory of the T’Sou-ke First Nation, the shop offers second-hand books, new titles, and rescued overstock books that might otherwise go to waste.
Terrier Books proudly supports 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and regularly donates to organizations including Egale Canada, QMUNITY, Sher Vancouver, Foundry Victoria, the Native Women’s Association of Canada, and the Moose Hide Campaign.
Inspired by the essay “The Serviceberry” by Robin Wall Kimmerer (later adapted into the book The Serviceberry), Terrier Books donates a new book each month to a Free Little Library, a small but meaningful act of community reciprocity.
Terrier Books shares many of New Society Publishers’ core values. With carbon-neutral shipping on all orders, an eco-conscious approach to bookselling, and a commitment to saving publisher overstock from landfill, the store demonstrates how independent bookstores can support both readers and the planet.
Their mission says it best: to provide people with affordable books that have a positive impact on the planet. That combination of accessibility, environmental responsibility, and community care mirrors the spirit that drives independent publishing and grassroots knowledge-sharing.
For readers who care about sustainability, social justice, and resilient local economies, Terrier Books represents exactly what independent bookselling can be: thoughtful, community-rooted, and future-focused.
