Digital Book Accessibility
At New Society Publishers, we are committed to improving digital accessibility for all individuals, including those living with disabilities. In keeping with our ethical commitments to fairness and inclusivity, we want all readers, including those who use assistive technologies, to be able to enjoy and benefit from our books. We are constantly striving to incorporate the latest accessibility best practices into our publishing program.
Since February 2024 we have released all frontlist titles as “Born Accessible”, ensuring that they meet or exceed current standards as defined by the Accessible British Columbia Act and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AAA. These epub3 files contain various accessibility features such as alternative text for images, table of contents, print-equivalent page numbers, landmarks, logical reading order, page lists, structural navigation, and semantic structure.
Additionally, the majority of the titles we have published between March 2020 and February 2024 have been updated to meet the above standards, and we anticipate completing this process within the next 12-18 months.
We recognize that many of our older publications are in formats which, while incorporating limited accessibility features, are not completely accessible to all our readers, and we are working to update as many of these as possible. This project is ongoing. Please contact us if you observe an issue or have concerns.
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of New Society Publishers’ digital offerings. Please let us know if you encounter barriers on our website or with our digital products. For assistance or to report a problem please email [email protected].
