Whether it’s donating your time or money, or just spreading good vibes, GivingTuesday is about giving in ways that truly count. This Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, New Society Publishers is proud to join the global movement for generosity by spotlighting and supporting New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community, a program of Our Place Society in Victoria, BC.

New Roads provides vital services and resources to men facing moderate to severe substance use challenges, empowering those who are highly motivated to make positive life changes.

GivingTuesday

The holidays are almost here, and let’s be honest—it can get pretty hectic. We’re all rushing around, trying to find the perfect gifts, manage endless to-do lists, and squeeze in time for everything. But what if, this year, we took a pause and thought about giving in a different way? Instead of focusing on what we can buy or wrap, what if we thought about how we could give back in a more meaningful, intentional way? That’s the spirit behind GivingTuesday—a day dedicated to spreading kindness, making a difference, and giving back in ways that really matter.

GivingTuesday isn’t just about writing a check to charity (though that’s always welcome). It’s about stepping back and asking yourself, “How can I make a positive impact today?” It’s a chance to think about the ways we can contribute to the world around us—not just for the people closest to us, but for the planet and the community we all share.

New Society Supports New Roads

We’re honoured to support a cause that is both close to home and to our hearts. Dan O’Sullivan, son of our staff members Paul and Heather O’Sullivan, is on his journey to recovery with the help of New Roads’ compassionate care. To further their mission, New Society is donating $500 to the program, confident that our contribution will support a worthy cause contributing to a more compassionate future.

Dan’s story is one of hope, perseverance, and connection. With the support of the community at New Roads—and the unconditional love of Jango, their therapy dog—he has found healing and a renewed sense of purpose.

Paying it Forward

One of the best things about GivingTuesday is how it encourages a ripple effect. When you give—whether it’s with time, resources, or simply by being kind—it often inspires others to do the same. You might think your small act won’t make a difference, but it can spark a chain reaction. Your kindness can encourage others to get involved, creating a more significant, broader impact than you imagined. It’s a beautiful reminder that kindness is contagious.

At the end of the day, GivingTuesday isn’t just about one day of giving—it’s about setting an intention to be more mindful of how we give throughout the year. It’s about asking ourselves how we can make a positive difference, whether that’s donating money, volunteering, supporting a local business, or simply showing kindness to others.

This GivingTuesday, take a moment to reflect on how you can contribute. What cause speaks to you? What’s a need in your community that you can help address? Giving doesn’t have to be big or flashy—it just has to come from the heart. It’s not about perfection. It’s about being present, making a difference, and spreading kindness. And that’s the kind of gift that keeps on giving.
